Quatrain XIII

by Abu al-Ala al-Ma'arri 973–1057

Translated by Henry Baerlein (1909) · From The Diwan of Abu'l-Ala (1909)

Religion

What may be gathered from the gracious land,
But I would have you sow with sleepless hand
The virtues that will balance your account.
