Quatrain XXX

by Abu al-Ala al-Ma'arri 973–1057

Translated by Henry Baerlein (1909) · From The Diwan of Abu'l-Ala (1909)

Religion

We lived to cleave as arrows thro' the night,--
Now there is ta'en from me the last of light,
And wheresoe'er I gaze a veil is hung.
