Quatrain XCI

by Abu al-Ala al-Ma'arri 973–1057

Translated by Henry Baerlein (1909) · From The Diwan of Abu'l-Ala (1909)

Religion

Your days: the lion, a fight-thirsty fool,
The fox who wears the robe of men that rule--
So run with me towards the wilderness.
