Living

The Magician

by Anonymous Chinese nursery rhymes traditional (collected in Peking, 1890s)

Translated by Isaac Taylor Headland (1900) · From Chinese Mother Goose Rhymes (1900)

Living

A big, dead snake is lying there,
It has no ears and it has no hair;
I breathe on it some magic air,
And it lives and is running everywhere.
