Book XVI, 243: On the Same
Translated by W. R. Paton (1916–18) · From The Greek Anthology (Loeb, vol. V, 1918)
I stand here the guardian of the farm in the rich field, watching over Phricon’s hut and his plants, and to everyone I say this, “When you have done laughing at the sight of me with this appendage, go your way. But if you transgress and do what is unlawful, your hairy face will not help you; know how to pierce all.”
This translation is printed as prose in its source edition.
