Nature

Around Mount Miyoshino’s crest

by Asukai Masatsune d. 1221

Translated by William N. Porter (1909) · From A Hundred Verses from Old Japan (Hyakunin Isshu), poem 94

Nature

Around Mount Miyoshino’s crest
The autumn winds blow drear;
The villagers are beating cloth,
Their merry din I hear,
This night so cold and clear.
