Atharva Veda 6.87: A benediction addressed to a newly elected King
Translated by Ralph T. H. Griffith (1895–96) · From The Hymns of the Atharva-Veda (1895–96)
Here art thou: I have chosen thee. Stand stedfast and immov-able.
Let all the clans desire thee: let not thy kingdom fall away.
Be even here: fall not away: be like a mountain unremoved.
Stand stedfast here like Indra's self, and hold the kingship in the grasp.
This man hath Indra stablished, made secure by constant sacri-fice.
Soma, and Brāhmanaspati here present bless and comfort him!
