On Iacobs wrestling
From Two Bookes of Epigrammes, and Epitaphs (1639), Book II
Social Commentaries
Iacob, that Esau had supplanted first,
(With confidence well fortify'd) now durst
Encounter with an Angell, and doth beare
The blessed prize away; though lam'd he were:
Yet no discomfort could him hence dismay,
Sith such maim'd souldiers shall have heavenly pay.
