To Sir IOHN HARPVR
From Two Bookes of Epigrammes, and Epitaphs (1639), Book I
Social Commentaries
YOu once my lusty Lines did like,
(And I as well did like your Gold)
My measure-keeping Muse doth strike
On the same string; whose hopes are bold
That you will daigne an eare to it,
Sith Hermes (to adorne your minde)
Hath yeelded you his pleasant Wit,
And Phoebus hath his Harpe resign'd.
