Comfort in selfe conquest

by Thomas Bancroft fl. 1633–1658

From Two Bookes of Epigrammes, and Epitaphs (1639), Book II

Social Commentaries

On troubled waters could not Noahs Dove
Take rest, but in the Arke, that did containe
A wildernesse of Creatures leagu'd in love;
Nor will that Dove-like comforter remaine,
Save that in brest, whose wild affections be
Bound to tame peace, yet strike sweet harmony.
