Davids Harpe out of Tune, after its Masters decease

by Thomas Bancroft fl. 1633–1658

From Two Bookes of Epigrammes, and Epitaphs (1639), Book II

Social Commentaries

How am I sleighted now, whose strings
Lately enchain'd the eares of Kings,
And seem'd by vertue of their charme
Th'infernall Dragon to disarme!
Now being of no note at all,
My mirth hangs with me on the wall,
Though still as good as ere did twang:
So may lost favourites goe hang.
