Psalm 126
From The Book of Psalms in Metre (1644)
WHen as the Lord brought back again,
The bondage most extream,
Wherein poor Sion did remain,
We were like them that dream.
Our mouth was fill'd with laughter then,
And singing fill'd our tongue:
Among amazed heathen men,
These speeches past along.
Great things for them and marvellous,
The Lord hath done indeed:
Yea God hath done great things for us,
Which doth our gladness breed.
O Lord our thraldom turn again,
As streams in Southern parts:
For they that sow with tears obtain
To reap with joyfull hearts.
Who weeping precious seed bears out,
A pledge behind him leaves
To come again with joy, no doubt,
And with him bring his sheaves.
