Psalm 15

by William Barton 1598?–1678

From The Book of Psalms in Metre (1644)

Religion

LOrd who shall have a dwelling place,
In Tabernacles of thy grace?
Thy holy hill who shall possess?
Sure he that worketh righteousness.
That walks upright, and speaks the truth;
And this even from his heart he doth.
He that backbites not with his tongue,
Nor doth his neighbour any wrong
Nor taketh up (tho others broach)
Against his Neighbour a reproach.
Vile men are in his eyes abhor'd;
But honoured they that fear the Lord.
That changeth not what once he swears,
Tho he the loss and dammage bears.
That puts not out his coin, whereby
To gain by biting usury.
Nor takes reward to circumvent,
Or prejudice the innocent,
He that doth these things is approv'd,
And never shall that man be mov'd.
