by Richard Baxter 1615–1691

From Paraphrase on the Psalms of David in Metre (1692)

Religion

by W. Barton

Have mercy on us, Lord,
And grant to us thy grace,
And unto us do thou afford
The brightness of thy face.

That all the earth may know
The way to godly wealth,
And all the people here below
May see thy saving health.

Let all the world, O God,
Give praise unto thy name;
O let the people all abroad
Extoll and laud the same.

Throughout the world so wide,
Let all rejoyce with mirth;
For thou shalt justly judge and guide
The nations of the earth.

Let all the world, O God,
Give praise unto thy name,
And let the people all abroad
Extoll and laud the same.

Then shall the earth increase,
Great store of fruit shall fall,
And God our God shall grant us peace,
And greatly bless us all.

Yea, God shall bless us all,
And earth both far and near;
And people all in general
Of him shall stand in fear.

The same by the Scots.

Lord, unto us be merciful,
Do thou us also bless,
And graciously make shine on us
The brightness of thy face.

That so thy way upon the earth
To all men may be known,
Also among the nations all
Thy saving health be known.

O Let the people praise thee, Lord,
Let people all thee praise:

And let the nations all be glad,
And sing for joy always.
For rightly thou shalt people judge,
And nations rule on earth:

Let people praise thee, Lord, let all
The folk praise thee with mirth.

Then shall the earth yield her increase,
God, our God, bless us shall.

God shall us bless, and of the earth
The ends shall fear him all.
