Living

Epigram XXVIII

by Bhartrihari traditionally 5th–7th century AD

Translated by Paul Elmer More (1898) · From A Century of Indian Epigrams (1898)

Living

By truth the righteous guide upon his course
The rolling sun, and stay the earth by force
Of penitence austere.
They are the refuge of the worlds outworn,
And worlds that lurk in darkness still are born
Because they tarry here.
