Epigram XXXVII. On a Hare

by Alexander Brome 1620–1666

Translated by Alexander Brome (1664) · From Songs and Other Poems (1664)

History & Politics

A Hare unsafe by land, leap'd into th' main,
Flying land-dogs, was by a sea-dog slain.
Poor worm! flies she to Earth, to Sea, to Skie,
Each hath a dog, and she by dogs must dye.
