by Elizabeth Barrett Browning 1806–1861

From The Poetical Works of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Volume 2

Religion

And my soul sprang up astonished, sprang full-statured in an hour.
Know you what it is when anguish, with apocalyptic NEVER,
To a Pythian height dilates you, and despair sublimes to power?
