Death & Dying
Epitaph III
From Poems on Several Occasions (1744)
Death & Dying
REader, such as Thou art. such once She stood,
As soft, ingenious, beautiful and good;
Such as She is Thou quickly must become,
Stiff, senseless, loathsome, mould'ring in a Tomb:
Yet shall These Limbs with Charms renew'd ascend,
Bright from the Dust, and by the Grave refin'd;
"Like Her be Virtuous, You like Her shall shine
"Young, fair, gay, active, deathless and divine.
