Nature

Night

by Madison Cawein 1865–1914

From Blooms of the Berry (1887)

Nature

The whimp'ring creek breaks on the stone;
The new moon came, but now is gone;
White, tingling stars wink out alone.
Lank specter of wet, windy lands,
The melancholy heron stands;
Then, clamoring, dives into the stars.
