Short Stanza XXXVII: The perfume is the same, the same the hue

by Classical Japanese Poets 7th–10th centuries

Translated by Basil Hall Chamberlain (1900) · From Short Stanzas

As that which erst my senses did delight:--
But he who planted the fair avenue
Is here no more, alas! to please my sight!
