Love
After Reading Certain Books
From Poems (1908)
Love
It's a great deal better to lose than win.
And virtue is nothing compared to sin,
And to get out of Heaven's the way to get in,
Said the Devil.
For the narrow way, as we know full well,
Is the way that leads a saint to Hell,
And who can rise that never fell .''
Said the Devil.
And if God forgave, not when you would,
But whenever you did the best you could,
What room would there be for God to be good?
Said the Devil.
