Love

I chanced to see, upon a day

by Mary E. Coleridge 1861–1907

From Poems (1908)

Love

I chanced to see, upon a day
Of blue beflecked with white and gray,
A crowd of busy men and an old hag-
The crossing wires above the street —
Two friends that did each other greet —
And England's flag.
