Love
Her Heart and Mine — Out of Astrea
Translated by Charles Cotton (1689) · From Poems on Several Occasions (1689)
Love
Well may I say that our two Hearts
Composed are of flinty Rock;
Mine as resisting rigorous Darts;
Yours as it can indure the shock
Of Love, and of my Tears, and Smart.
But when I weigh the griefs, whereby
My Suff'rings I perpetuate,
[…] say, in this extremity,
In Constancy, that I am that
Rock, which you are in Cruelty.
