Hymne XV: Of her Wit

by Sir John Davies 1569–1626

From Hymnes of Astraea (1599)

History & Politics

Eye of that mind most quicke and cleare,
Like Heau'ns eye, which from his spheare,
Into all things pryeth,
Sees through all things euery where,
And all their natures tryeth.

Bright Image of an Angels wit,
Exceeding sharpe, and swift like it,
Things instantly discerning:
Hauing a Nature infinit,
And yet increasd by learning.

Rebound vpon thy selfe thy light,
Enioy thine owne sweete precious sight:
Giue vs but some reflection;
It is enough for vs, if wee
Now in her speech, now pollicie,
Admire thine high perfection.
