CLXXIX. Pardon spoken by CHRIST.

by Philip Doddridge 1702–1751

From Hymns founded on various Texts in the Holy Scriptures (1755)

Religion

MY Saviour, let me hear thy Voice
Pronounce these Words of Peace;
And all my warmest Pow'rs shall join
To celebrate the Grace.

With gentle Smiles call me thy Child,
And speak my Sins forgiv'n;
The Accents mild shall charm mine Ear
All like the Harps of Heav'n.

Chearful, where-e'er thy Hand shall lead,
The darkest Path I'll tread;
Chearful I'll quit these mortal Shores,
And mingle with the Dead.

When dreadful Guilt is done away,
No other Fears we know;
That Hand, which scatters Pardons down,
Shall Crowns of Life bestow.
