CCXXXVI. The Christian's Life connected with that of CHRIST.
From Hymns founded on various Texts in the Holy Scriptures (1755)
THE Cov'nant of a Saviour's Love
Shall stand for ever good,
And thus his Life shall guard the Souls,
He purchas'd with his Blood.
"I live for ever, (saith the Lord)
"And you shall therefore live;
"Receive with Pleasure ev'ry Pledge
"My Pow'r and Love can give".
We own the Promise, Prince of Grace,
Tho' earthly Helpers die;
And animate our fainting Hearts,
While Christ our Friend is nigh.
The King of Fears can do no more
Than stop our mortal Breath;
But Jesus gives a nobler Life,
That cannot yield to Death.
Codex Note
Text: John xiv. 19.
