Love

(untitled)

by William Drummond of Hawthornden 1585–1649

Love

LIfe a right shadow is,
For if it long appeare,
Then is it spent, and Deaths long Night draws neare;
Shadows are moving, light,
And is there ought so moving as is this?
When it is most in Sight,
It steales away, and none knows how or where,
So neare our Cradles to our Coffins are.
