Love

Venus

by William Drummond of Hawthornden 1585–1649

Love

THe Acidalian Queen amidst thy Bayes
Shall twine her Mirtles, grant thee pleasant daies;
She did make cleare thy house, and with her light
Of churlish stars put back the dismall spight;
The Hymenean bed faire brood shall grace,
Which on the earth continue shall their race,
While Floras treasure shall the Meads endeare,
While sweet Pomona Rose-cheek'd fruits shall beare,
While Phaebes beames her brothers emulates:
Thus Heavens decree, so have ordain'd the Fates.
