Thou Comest Down to Die

by Michael Field 1846–1914 (Bradley) and 1862–1913 (Cooper)

From A Selection from the Poems of Michael Field (1923)

Religion

Thou comest down to die.
Each day to die for me;
Halting with feet that fly
Down from the Trinity.

How beautiful Thy Feet,
Even as Hermes' are,
That Thou shouldst run so fleet
To Golgotha!

Each day another girds
And binds Thee to the Wood,
sing, as singing birds,
The glory of Thy Mood.
