Nature

So thickly lies the morning mist

by Fujiwara no Sadayori d. 1004

Translated by William N. Porter (1909) · From A Hundred Verses from Old Japan (Hyakunin Isshu), poem 64

Nature

So thickly lies the morning mist,
That I can scarcely see
The fish-nets on the river bank,
The River of Uji,
Past daybreak though it be.
