Nature

The maples of Mount Ogura

by Fujiwara no Tadahira d. c. 936

Translated by William N. Porter (1909) · From A Hundred Verses from Old Japan (Hyakunin Isshu), poem 26

Nature

The maples of Mount Ogura,
If they could understand,
Would keep their brilliant leaves, until
The Ruler of this land
Pass with his royal band.
