Love

To his dear Friend Mr. Will. Percival. That Poetry is Witchcraft

by Charles Goodall 1671–1689

From Poems and Translations (1689)

Love

WIth Legion sure the Muses are possest,
That play the Devil in every inspir'd breast.
What Epidemick Plague runs in mens Veins?
What an eternal dribling of the Brains?
My greatest Enemy I'd wish no worse,
Than th' Itch of Scribling, and a Poet's Curse.
