Love

To Mr. King

by Charles Goodall 1671–1689

From Poems and Translations (1689)

Love

HOW canst thou, Astrius, Heaven and Earth survey?
Thou little crum of a small lump of Clay!
First know thy self, thy own Dimensions find,
And take the narrow compass of thy Mind.
For if thou canst not measure such a Clod,
What wouldst thou do with all the wondrous works. of God?
