Love

Praise God, the wine door’s open, Men!

by Hafiz c. 1315–1390

Translated by Edna Worthley Underwood (1917) · From Songs of Hafiz (1917)

Love

Praise God, the wine door’s open, Men!
I’m off on the old path again!

True spirit fire the wine-jars frame,
(Fools take symbolically the same!)

I take as tastes. Hafiz divine,
None know thee save when candles shine!
