Living

Cooler Weather

by Han Wu 8th or 9th century AD

Translated by Witter Bynner and Kiang Kang-hu (1929) · From The Jade Mountain (1929)

Living

Her jade-green alcove curtained thick with silk,
Her vermilion screen with its pattern of flowers,
Her eight-foot dragon-beard mat and her quilt brocaded in squares
Are ready now for nights that are neither warm nor cold.
