Nature
To Spring
From The Poetical Works (1899)
Welcome, thou blooming maiden
Thou joy of Nature's breast,
With thy wreathed flowers laden !
Welcome from thy rest !
Ah ! ah ! as dear as ever,
As lovely as before ;
We'll forget that we must sever,
While thou art here once more.
I think, when last thy blossom
Was bursting on the hill,
How I won the faithful bosom
Of Her, who loves me still.
And I think of fondly twining
Fair flowers on her brow,
Amidst her dark hair shining —
Such as I gather now.
So welcome ! blooming maiden —
Thou joy of Nature's breast ;
With thy wreathed flowers laden,
Welcome ! from thy rest.
