On Philautus

by Robert Heath fl. 1636–1659

From Clarastella (1650), Epigrams, Lib. 1

Social Commentaries

Philautus with himself is much in love,
Doth his own actions ever best approve;
Nay his own picture he doth look upon,
('Cause 'tis like him,) with admiration:
How wel may he be said and truly too
To court a shadow? he himself is so.
