Love
The Invocation to Cupid
From Clarastella (1650), Poems, &c.
Love
Oh do not look me dead, fair eies!
Do not allure and then despise!
Be kind but as your picture! that
Will look and smile, though you will not.
Ye Gods! or women make lesse fair!
Or else lesse cruell then they are!
Or strike me Cupid blind like thee,
So I my torment shal not see.
