Living

Chorus Senum.

by Robert Herrick 1591–1674

From Hesperides (1648)

Living

LEt wealth come in by comely thrift,
And not by any sordid shift:
'Tis haste
Makes waste:
Extreames have still their fault;

The softest Fire makes the sweetest Mault.
Who gripes too hard the dry and slip'rie sand,
Holds none at all, or little in his hand.
