Nature

At His Club

by Hsieh Fang-te AD 1226–1289

Translated by Herbert A. Giles (1898) · From Chinese Poetry in English Verse (1898)

Nature

Long past midnight the wife hears the goatsucker's cry,
And rises to see that the silkworms are fed:
Alas! there's the moon shining low in the sky,
But her husband has not yet come back to his bed.
