Death & Dying

The Epitaph.

by Thomas Jordan c. 1612–1685

From Divinity and Morality in Robes of Poetry ([1660?])

Death & Dying

LAdies that are young and wise,
Shall I tell ye of a Prize?
Here a Box of Beauty lies.

A Iewel hid from vulgar view,
Whose excellency if you knew,
Your eyes would drop like morning dew.

Dame-Natures Diamond, which when
She saw it was too bright for men,
Shew'd it, and shut it up agen.
