Death & Dying

At a Grave

by Ku K’uang 8th–9th century AD

Translated by Herbert A. Giles (1898) · From Chinese Poetry in English Verse (1898)

Death & Dying

An old man lays to rest a much-loved son
By day and night his tears of blood will run,
Albeit when threescore years and ten have fled,
'Tis not a long farewell that he has said.
