Death & Dying

A Funeral

by Walter Savage Landor 1775–1864

From Heroic Idyls (1863)

Death & Dying

A hearse is passing by in solemn state,
Within lies one whom people call the great.
Its plumes seem nodding to the girls below
As they gaze upward at the rareeshow,
Boys from the pavement snatch their tops, and
To know what in the world can be the fun.
