To Peter the Fisherman
From Heroic Idyls (1863)
History & Politics
Thou hast been ever active, Peter,
And netted loads on loads of fish ;
Could we but get them somewhat sweeter
'Twere well . . alas, how vain the wish !
We must remember that they come
Close-hamper'd all the way through Rome.
