Love

Lie, My Fond Heart at Rest

by Walter Savage Landor 1775–1864

From Works and Life, ed. Forster, vol. VIII (1876)

Love

Lie, my fond heart at rest,
She never can be ours.
Why strike upon my breast
The slowly passing hours?
All! breathe not out the name!
That fatal folly stay!
Conceal the eternal flame,
And tortured ne'er betray.
