Love
Lady to Lady
From Works and Life, ed. Forster, vol. VIII (1876)
Love
Tell me, proud though lovely maiden!
He who heaves from heart o'erladen
Verse on verse for only you,
What is it he hopes to do?
REPLY.
What he hopes is but to please.
If I give his hand a squeeze,
Silent, at the closing strain,
Tell me, does it write in vain.
