Living

Julius Hare

by Walter Savage Landor 1775–1864

From Works and Life, ed. Forster, vol. VIII (1876)

Living

Julius! how many hours have we
Together spent with sages old!
In wisdom none surpassing thee,
In Truth's bright armour none more bold.
By friends around thy couch in death
My name from those pure lips was heard.
O Fame! how feebler all thy breath
Than Virtue's one expiring word!
