Death & Dying

The Dead Are Soon Forgotten, and Not All

by Walter Savage Landor 1775–1864

From Works and Life, ed. Forster, vol. VIII (1876)

Death & Dying

The dead are soon forgotten, and not all
Who walk aside and bear the sable pall
Sleep the less soundly at that evening's close.
I in my vigil think I heard a toll
Such as it boom'd when Teresita's soul
In heaven's own purity to heaven arose.
