There Are Two Rival Foes for Every Breast

by Walter Savage Landor 1775–1864

From Works and Life, ed. Forster, vol. VIII (1876)

Living

And both alike are enemies to rest.
Pear of these combatants is much the strongest,
Yet Hope upon the battle-ground stays longest.
