Living

Nugent! I Hope Ere Long to See

by Walter Savage Landor 1775–1864

From Works and Life, ed. Forster, vol. VIII (1876)

Living

Nugent! I hope ere long to see
In leaf my lately planted tree.
Alas! that there will stand no more
She whose weak wrists the burden bore
Half-way down that smooth grassy mead,
And said, ' ' No help of yours I need.
But you may hold it if you will,
And the deep gap let Nugent fill A
Another gap was soon to hold
That graceful form, that heart now cold
